Norfolk's volunteer firefighters worked around the clock to check in on local residents and monitor road conditions. Many residents were left unable to leave their houses following the devastating floods.
Numerous bridges and roadways were washed out completely, with many other side streets and roads severely undermined. The town of Norfolk declared a local state of emergency and urged residents to stay off the roads.

After the rain subsided, the Johnson's spent several days clearing up debris that had washed onto their property, which at one point was completely inundated with water.
Roads remain closed after the waters had begun to recede, as local officials rushed to survey the full extent of the damage and begin to plan repairs.
